My Vision
As a mother of three, I share every parent’s commitment to ensuring their child thrives in school and in life. I will work towards a future where every student in Santa Barbara Unified School District is challenged, supported, and inspired to reach their fullest potential, both academically and personally.
If elected to the School Board, here is how I would make that vision a reality:
1. Clarify Goals for the Santa Barbara Unified School District
Our district’s guiding principle is simple: “Every Child, Every Chance, Every Day.” I will work to distill this vision into concrete, understandable goals:
SMART Goals: The Board will develop 3-5 specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound goals to guide the District’s progress over the next five years. These goals will focus on the skills and knowledge we want our students to master.
Community Involvement: These goals will be identified and set with substantial input from our community, ensuring that your voice is heard and valued.
Transparency: Our goals and progress will be openly shared on our website, so you can see exactly how we’re moving forward. Inspired by successful models like Palo Alto Unified School District, we will make sure our plans are accessible.
Clear Metrics: We will establish clear metrics to track our progress and to ensure we’re moving in the right direction. When adjustments are needed, we’ll make them based on data and feedback to stay on course.
2. Increase Input from Families, Teachers, and Staff
My approach to continuous improvement will be rooted in collaboration and evidence:
Feedback Loops: I will work to implement continuous improvement processes that actively involve teachers, staff, and families, ensuring their expertise and insights shape our strategies.
Evidence-Based Practices: The District’s initiatives will be guided by the latest data-verified educational research, embracing the method of starting small, learning quickly from both successes and setbacks, and continuously getting better.
3. Rally the Community Around SBUSD
SBUSD has outstanding teachers, staff, and supportive nonprofits. To further our success, I will strive to:
Strengthen Partnerships: I will expand our collaboration with parents, educators, nonprofits, and local businesses to create a united effort for student achievement.
City-Wide Engagement: Inspired by successful city-wide educational initiatives like those in Chicago, we can work together to drive substantial improvements in our schools.
Together, we can ensure every student in SBUSD receives the education they deserve and is prepared for a bright future.
